Partnered with NESTE and SQUAKE

Together with our partners Neste - the world’s leading producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and SQUAKE, the industry solution for sustainable travel and logistics, we’ve developed an end-to-end solution to make it easy and affordable for you to fly with Sustainable Aviation Fuel every time you travel. Read the full press release here.

What is SAF?

SAF is a renewable aviation fuel (also known as biofuel) that provides a sustainable alternative to conventional, fossil based jet fuel that goes into airplanes today. In the short to medium term, it is the only solution that can help the aviation sector achieve its emission reduction goals.

What goes into making SAF?

Fats, oils and greases (FOGs) are the current leading source for the production of SAF. This could be, for example, waste material like used cooking oil or fish and animal residues from industrial processes.

How does SAF reduce emissions?

When comparing the entire lifecycle process of SAF and regular jet fuel, the emission reduction properties in SAF lies in the fact that it does not introduce new CO2 into the atmosphere - a process also called carbon recycling. SAF is produced by waste materials from renewable sources, as opposed to jet fuel which is refined from crude oil. The way it works is that the fuel is burnt (as it would be in any engine), but the carbon that’s emitted is then reabsorbed through biomass, which is then turned into fuel again.

Why is SAF so expensive?

SAF is roughly two to four times more expensive than conventional jet fuel because the production process is far more intensive than regular fuel, but that’s only because there’s not enough demand right now. It’s a chicken and the egg situation. More demand = more volume = lower prices - which is why we’ve built a system that allows you to buy SAF while not breaking your budget.

Why do we need to invest in SAF?

SAF could contribute up to 65% of the emissions reductions needed by the aviation sector to hit net-zero by 2050. And while there are developments happening with hydrogen airplanes, we need a solution here and now. By providing a plug-and-play solution for our clients, Goodwings is helping to drive demand for a solution that can reshape the business travel sector.
